443 killed in natural disasters across the country in 10 months


Kathmandu, 23: A total of 443 people have lost their lives to various natural calamities across the country in the past 10 months alone, said data with Home Ministry.

The revelation was made at a discussion programme with media-persons organised today in the Capital by the Forum for Women, Law and Development with the theme 'policy plan on disaster management and legal management'.

The figure of people killed in various natural disasters like epidemic, flooding, storms, rains and altitude sickness outnumbered those killed in landslides with 145 dead.
At the event, Deputy Secretary at the Ministry Shankar Hari Adhikari said the total 9,217 people were killed, 236 disappeared and 22652 injured in the earthquake in 2015 and other disasters last year.

Similarly on the occasion, the Division of Law at the Ministry Chief Nirmala Adhikari informed that the Ministry was doing homework to implement the act related to disasters, identify open space and depot disaster preparedness measures.
Also, chairperson of the Forum and advocate Mira Dhungana stressed the need for including issues relating to disaster preparedness measures and tackling disaster risks, in school curricula. RSS
