kathmandu: Vehicular movement along the Sindhuli’s Khurkot-Nepalthok road section of the BP Highway has been obstructed after the road caved in near Trivenighat, Sitalpati VDC-9, on Sunday night.
According to SP Uma Shankar Panjiyar of the District Police Office, Sindhuli, the incident occurred at around 11 pm yesterday.
He informed that around 30 metres road have fallen into the Sunkoshi River.
As there are no alternative routes, hundreds of vehicles leaving for Kathmandu from Sindhuli and vice versa have been stranded since yesterday night.
The District Administration Office (DAO) has issued a notice to the concerned transport entrepreneurs to inform the small and large vehicles heading towards Kathmandu to stay off the road for the time being.
The DAO has also notified Mahottari district officials to divert the vehicles heading to west via Sindhuli.
Locals blame the collapse on the road's weak foundation, cracks and fissures developed during the April 25, 2015 devastating earthquake.
