Indian Army chief Rawat arrives for four-day visit


Kathmandu, March 28: Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army Bipin Rawat has arrived Kathmandu today on a four-day visit at the invitation of chief of Nepal Army, Rajendra Chhetri.

He was received by Lieutenant General Purna Chandra Thapa at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

He will be conferred with the honorary rank of General of the Nepal Army by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday. President Bhandari is the Supreme Commander of the Nepal Army.

It is a unique custom and tradition between the Nepali and Indian Army to confer this honour on each other's Army Chief to signify close and special military-to-military ties since long.
During his visit here, CoAS Rawat will call on the Prime Minister, the Minister for Defence and his Nepali counterpart Chhetri, separately.

Similarly, he will visit Pashupati Nath and Mukti Nath Temples and the Jomsom-based Nepal Army's High-altitude Training Academy. He will further visit the Indian Army pension distribution camp in Pokhara as well.
