Punarbas area in Kanchanpur tensed

Bhimduttanagar, March 10: Tensions have been running high at Punarbas area in Punarbas Municipality-8 in Kanchanpur district since a clash between locals and Indian nationals regarding the construction of culvert in the local road ensued on Thursday and continued till today.

More than 20,000 Nepalis have been demonstrating against the Kanchanpur incident at Kargil Danda in the district

A group of Nepali persons had been protesting the Indian security forces' unilateral act of breaking the culvert constructed to facilitate movement between Nepal and India as per the bilateral agreement.

In course of the protest, the Indian security forces on March 9 had opened fire at the Nepali persons in which Govinda Gautam of Punarbas Municipality-8 of Kanchanpur district was injured and died on the way to Dhangadhi hospital for treatment.

Although the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police force have been trying to keep the locals in Punarbas area under their surveillance, they have not been able to contain them.
The Indian security force, known as Seema Surakshya Bal, has already fired more than 50 rounds of tear gas.
