Nepali envoy to Oman pays courtesy call on Chairman of Shura Council of Oman


Kathmandu, August 2: Nepali Ambassador to Oman, Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, has paid a courtesy call on Chairman of the Shura Council of Oman, Khalid Hilal Nasser Al-Mawali at latter's office on Tuesday.

Shura Council (Majlis al-Shura) is the lower house of the Council of Oman. It is the only legislative body in Oman of which all members including women are democratically elected. The other chamber of the parliament is the Council of State (Majlis al-Dawla).

During the meeting, Al-Mawali expressed happiness to receive Dhakal as first Ambassador of Nepal to the Sultanate of Oman and wished for her successful tenure in the Sultanate, reads a press release issued by Embassy of Nepal, Muscat, Oman.

Similarly, Ambassador Dhakal thanked for the warm words and appreciated the dynamic leadership of Majesty Sultan Qaboos and role played by the Sultanate in maintaining international peace.

On the occasion, various aspects of bilateral relations and means to further strengthen the mutual relations were discussed.

Al-Mawali emphasized that political stability is the most important factor for economic growth. He expressed his keen interest to meet his counterpart Speaker of the Parliament of Nepal in upcoming International Conference of Parliament Members in September 2017 in the United Kingdom.

Al-Mawali also highlighted the importance of making parliamentary caucus between the two countries to learn and share the mutual experiences.

Narrating about the natural resources—tourism sector, hydropower projects and hotel industries of Nepal, Ambassador Dhakal underscored the need and importance of trade and investment in such areas for enhancing bilateral relations, reads the statement.

Also present in the meeting were Rojina Tamrakar, Deputy Chief of Mission and other dignitaries from Shura Council. RSS
